If you have low iron even though you are eating lots of red meat, than its likely that your gut health is the driver of your low iron.
And a side note, your iron supplements and iron infusions are probably making your issues worse.
There are 3 keys ways that poor gut health can cause low iron…
Having "Leaky Gut"- Which means that the lining of your gut is damaged, making it harder for your body to absorb iron from food.
Infections - When there are infections in your gut, like SIBO, Candida, parasites, or H. pylori, they like to feed off iron. To stop these infections from eating up too much of your iron, your body lowers the levels of iron available.
Low stomach acid - Having low stomach acid also makes it tough to absorb iron properly from your food. Stomach acid helps break down food and starts digestion. If you don't have enough stomach acid, your body won't absorb iron well.
So a few steps you can take now if you have low iron…
Stop taking iron supplements or avoid getting an iron infusion, as these can feed the pathogens
Start supporting your stomach acid with things like apple cider vinegar
Start taking a beef spleen or liver supplement with your meals
While these interventions may offer some relief, it's important to address the root cause of gut dysfunctions to prevent the recurrence of issues like low iron levels.
